The dual Group 1-winning mare Delicacy (Aus) (Al Maher {Aus}) has been retired following injuries sustained during her record weight-carrying victory in the G2 Perth Cup on Jan. 2. The G1 SA Derby and G1 Australasian Oaks victrix tore both front tendons in posting the 12th success of her career when beating her stablemate Neverland (Aus) (Big Brown) by three-quarters of a length.
Bred by her owner Bob Peters of Peters Investment Ltd, Delicacy won her sole start at two and recorded her first of seven black-type victories in the G3 W.A. Champion Fillies' S. Subsequent wins in the West Australian Oaks and Derby provided the springboard to further success in South Australia, where she recorded both her Group 1 triumphs. The stellar season for the Grant Williams trainee culminated in her being crowned champion 3-year-old filly in Australia and named West Australia's Horse of the Year.
Delicacy's 4-year-old campaign continued in similar vein, with back-to-back wins in the G2 C.B. Cox S. and the Perth Cup coming just a fortnight apart.
