The entries have been released for the two Group 1 juvenile events on Irish Champions Weekend in September, namely the Moyglare Stud S. and the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National S. The Moyglare sponsored fillies race features some very interesting unraced juveniles, including their own Tocco D'Amore (Ire) (Raven's Pass), who cost the Maynooth-based stud €2 million when topping the Orby Yearling Sale at Goffs last September.
Aidan O'Brien has 15 entries and, among the unraced ones of interest, are Butterflies (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), a half-sister to Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat) and Bound (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), a full sister to both Wedding Vow (Ire) and Beacon Rock (Ire).
Jim Bolger has an interesting entrant in Dawn Of An Era (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}), making her a full-sister to Dawn Approach (Ire). Wesley Ward has entered Ascot debut winner Create A Dream (Oasis Dream {GB}), who no doubt has the Royal meeting on her agenda first.
In the colts' race, Aidan O'Brien can choose from a possible team of 36, including his unbeaten Caravaggio (Scat Daddy). Featuring among the blueblooded unraced colts are Courage Under Fire (War Front), a half-brother to the dual Grade 1 winner Take Charge Brandi (Giant's Causeway) that cost $6 million at Keeneland November and another son of War Front, Whitecliffsofdover, who came with a price-tag of $1.15 million at Keeneland. Douglas Macarthur (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) cost 1.25 million guineas at Tattersalls and is a full-brother to the 2012 G1 Epsom Oaks winner Was (Ire). Dermot Weld has entered the unraced Rich History (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), a half-brother to his former star Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}).
Derek McGrath, the newly installed CEO of Curragh Racecourse Ltd, commented, “We are delighted with the quality of entries. The winners of both races last year went on to become the highest rated 2-year-old filly and colt in Europe, which again emphasises how important these races are in the international calendar. We are very grateful to both Moyglare Stud and Goffs for their increased sponsorship commitment which will ensure we can maximise all opportunities to continue to attract the very best horses to compete.”
