Chrome' Drills at Los Al

GI Kentucky Derby and GI Preakness S. winner California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit) drilled six panels in 1:10.37 under regular rider Victor Espinoza in between races at Los Alamitos Race Course yesterday. The chestnut, who is being pointed to the GII Pennsylvania Derby Sept. 20, galloped out seven furlongs in 1:24 flat. “I thought it was a fantastic work,'' said trainer Art Sherman. “Actually better than I thought it was going to be. I figured if he went in 1:12 and change or 1:13 I would be really happy.” He added, “You bring him out here in front of the people and he thinks he's going to run–he's just a different horse. This is by far the best work since he's come back. This was a test for me personally because he's going to have to run in two weeks. We'll get another strong work into him before he leaves and I just hope that will do the trick going a mile and an eighth.” California Chrome hasn't been seen since finishing fourth in the GI Belmont S. June 7.
