Comeback Day For Bell

Sammy Jo Bell | Racing Post

Jockey Sammy Jo Bell makes a return to race-riding on Monday at Wolverhampton after a long period on the sidelines. The 26-year-old broke her pelvis in a paddock fall last May and has overcome a lengthy period of rehabilitation to get her career back on track. She resumes with two mounts for her boss Richard Fahey and is naturally excited about getting back in action. “I'm looking forward to getting back and it's all very exciting,” Bell told the Racing Post. Despite being sidelined for over six months the jockey never lost faith in her ability to resume her career. “I've always been able to keep positive because there was never any reason that I was never going to ride a horse again, despite how long I was going to be off. I suppose the hardest part of it all was being in the wheelchair, just in terms of difficulty, but once I got the first couple of weeks over it was fine,” she added. Bell should not lack for fitness having had two months riding out to prepare for Monday. “Since January 2 I've ridden out every day, so I've been doing plenty. I haven't missed a day and I've been doing plenty of work riding.”
