Commemorative to Breeders’ Cup

Khalid Abdullah’s Group 3 Autumn S. winner Commemorative (GB) (Zamindar) skips Doncaster this weekend in favor of the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita. The Charlie Hills-trained Zamindar colt was an impressive winner of the Newmarket feature and despite a winning margin of a length, his superiority suggested he could be even better than that. There was talk of supplementing for the G1 Racing Post Trophy Saturday, but the likelihood of soft ground put paid to that idea for the Juddmonte Farm’s homebred.

“Commemorative will go to the Breeders’ Cup,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for Abdullah. “We had considered the Racing Post Trophy, but we feel that he’ll always be seen to best effect on nice ground and he’s unlikely to get that. So because of the ground, and $1 million, he’ll go to America for the Juvenile Turf.”
