Congrats Recovering From Colic Surgery

WinStar Farm's GII San Pasqual H. winner Congrats (A.P. Indy–Praise, by Mr. Prospector) is recovering well from colic surgery performed late last month in Australia the farm announced Friday. No gut was removed during the operation. Currently shuttling to Vinery Australia for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season, the bay is slated to stand the 2015 Northern Hemisphere breeding season at WinStar Farm for $35,000 stands and nurses.

Congrats became uncomfortable late last month and was sent to Scone Equine Hospital where an exploratory laparotomy was performed,” said Peter Orton, General Manager at Vinery Australia. “He is back home in his own stall at Vinery Australia, and continues to do very well.”

The 2010 champion freshman sire, Congrats has sired MGISW Turbulent Descent and GISWs Wickedly Perfect and Emma's Encore from five crops. He finished third on the national 2-year-old sire list in 2014.

“We were relieved to hear Congrats is doing well,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar Farm President & CEO. “After discussing the situation with Peter, we plan to ship him back to WinStar by the end of January, and expect that he'll be ready to cover mares by the first week of March. A few years back, Speightstown had colic surgery in the same month and covered a full book of mares, so we are optimistic.”
