During Friday's fifth race at Keeneland, February Son (Mizzen Mast) was removed from the track via equine ambulance and was later euthanized, according to a report from Keeneland.

“February Son sustained an injury and was attended to by an expert team of veterinarians led by KHRC Chief Veterinarian Dr. Nick Smith in consultation with Dr. Stuart Brown, Vice President of Equine Safety at Keeneland,” said the report. “Given the extent of the injury, it was determined that humane euthanasia was in the best interest of the horse. Keeneland offers our heartfelt condolences to owner Captain Jack Racing Stable and trainer Anthony Granitz.”

His rider Gerardo Corrales was taken to the University of Kentucky's Emergency Department. He was evaluated and discharged from the hospital.
