Backing up just 13 days after posting a visually impressive 6 1/4-length graduation going 4 1/2 furlongs here June 12, Conquest Stables' Conquest Vivi kept her perfect record in tact with a hard-fought victory to earn a career high. The C$150,000 top seller at last September's CTHS Yearling Sale, the bay was made the 3-5 chalk despite the quick turnaround and jumped alertly to press a solid pace from second. Popped the question at the top of the stretch by Patrick Husbands, Conquest Vivi dueled to the eighth pole outside of a stubborn Raghlan Road and edged away from that game rival in the final 100 yards to lead home a Spendthrift-sired exacta. “She's a pretty fast little filly so you just want to get across and clear the other horses,” Husbands said. “She's still got a long way to go. She's growing everyday, but she's very classy.” Conquest Vivi is the second stakes winner for her second-crop stallion (by Gulch), who is also responsible for this year's Lady Angela S. heroine Crumlin Spirit. The winner's unraced dam has a yearling filly by Successful Appeal and a foal colt by First Samurai. She is also represented by the highly regarded 3-year-old Conquest Enforcer (Into Mischief), a two-time stakes winner for these same connections.
