Curlin Exits Classic in Fine Shape

GI BreedersíCup Classic winner Curlin (Smart Strike) exited Saturdayís victory in good shape and a decision on the likely Horse of the Yearís future is likely to be made in the following days. ìItís just a whole new set of questions,î said the three-year-oldís trainer Steve Asmussen. ìOur focus has been the Breedersí Cup Classic ever since the Belmont. I think the horse came through with flying colors and put in his best performance yet. He was the best horse [Saturday] that heís been, but everything has to be evaluated from that. Itís the first time that we werenít thinking about tomorrow with him. I think everybody needs to step back, enjoy what heís done, and then evaluate it off of that.î
