TEJANA (f, 3, Curlin–Tia, by Giant's Causeway) upped her record to two-for-two here despite a poor start and a lack of experience relative to her competition. The chestnut was a 4 1/2-length winner at Pimlico May 15, and had been working regularly at Fair Hill in the interim. Off at 3-2, the Emory Hamilton homebred veered inward from her rail draw before rushing up to show the way through splits of :23.16 and :46.46. Challenged by Wembley (Bernardini) turning for home, Tejana always seemed to be going better and scampered away in the lane to score by 4 1/4 lengths. Favored Literata (Read the Footnotes) got up for second. The winner's year-younger half-sister Taglia (Union Rags) was second on debut at Keeneland in April. Tia produced a Kitten's Joy filly in 2015 and a full-sister to Tejana this spring. Tejana's second dam is MGSW La Reina (A.P. Indy), who produced a Grade II-winning full-sister to Tia in Chief Havoc. Her third dam is champion older mare Queena (Mr. Prospector), who was responsible for Brahms (Danzig). Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $69,000.
