Last year's G1 Qipco Champion S. scorer Fascinating Rock (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) will likely resume in The Curragh's G3 Mooresbridge S. May 2, with the May 22 G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup his main early season target.
“He's in great form, we're happy, it's early days yet,” trainer Dermot Weld told At The Races. “He had a great season last year winning from a mile to a mile and a half and obviously the Champion S. at Ascot was the highlight.”
“He tends to take a race so the first race will tell us a lot but his main first target is the big Group 1,” Weld added. “I think he can even improve a little more than what he did last year. He doesn't have to improve very much, but I think there is even more to come.”
Fascinating Rock won last year's Mooresbridge before finishing second to Al Kazeem (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the Tattersalls Gold Cup. He enjoyed a summer break before returning to win the G3 Enterprise S. and the Champion., and Weld suggested the 5-year-old entire could follow a similar path this year.
“He enjoys a nice ease in the ground, so he might have a summer's break like he had last year and concentrate in the autumn,” he said.
