Former champion racemare Snow Fairy (Ire) (Intikhab) will have a race named in her honour at The Curragh this season. Her owner Cristina Patino, who also bred the six time Group 1 winner, has agreed to support the G3 Snow Fairy S. for fillies and mares over 9 furlongs and scheduled for Aug. 28. Evan Arkwright Commercial Manager of the Curragh Racecourse commented, “We are delighted to be able to name a race after one of our most popular classic winners with racing fans having great memories of her outstanding performance when landing the Darley Irish Oaks by a record eight lengths. Mrs Patino has been an incredibly generous supporter of the Curragh and we are very grateful to her for agreeing to enhance this relationship in order to pay tribute to the achievements of her legendary race mare.” Trained by Ed Dunlop throughout her four seasons of racing Snow Fairy won both the English and Irish G1 Oaks as well as Group 1 races in Japan and Hong Kong. She capped a marvellous racing career when beating Nathaniel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Red Mills Irish Champion S. which was her last start. Snow Fairy delivered her first foal last year, a filly by her owner's own stallion Elusive Pimpernel (Elusive Quality). She was then covered by another of Patino's own stallions Palavicini (Giant's Causeway), a Group 3 winning half-brother to Elusive Pimpernel and like him, residing at the Irish National Stud.
