Cyclists To Fundraise For Jockeys Trust

Simone Montgomerie

Family and friends of Simone Montgomerie, the 26-year-old jockey killed in a racing accident almost three years ago, will cycle a 3000-kilometre journey July 4 to 29 to raise money for the National Jockeys Trust. The 26-day journey from Montgomerie's hometown of Streaky Bay to Darwin, where she was killed, represents a day for each year of Montgomerie's life. The fundraiser is the brainchild of Simone's father, former leading trainer Peter Montgomerie.

“The National Jockeys Trust and the industry as a whole came together to provide Kodah and our family with amazing support following Simone's death,” Montgomerie said. “We wanted to be able to give something back to the trust and for the families and loved ones of other riders who are seriously injured or killed.”
