Cynthia Phipps Dies in Accident

Owner/breeder Cynthia Phipps died yesterday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an early morning fire in her Manhattan apartment. She was 62 years old. Daughter of the late Ogden Phipps and granddaughter of Mrs. Henry Carnegie Phipps, she was the chairman of the Animal Medical Center, a non-profit veterinary hospital in Manhattan. Survivors include her brother, Ogden Mills ìDinnyî Phipps, the chairman of The Jockey Club. Phippsís yellow and purple colors were carried by champion Christmas Past as well as top runners Gold Fever, Out of Place, Saarland, Sugar Plum Time and Versailles Treaty. Services will be held Saturday at the Church of the Advent in Old Westbury, N.Y., at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Medical Center, 510 East 62nd Street, New York, N.Y. 10065.
