Can you throw out 'TDN Rising Star' Danzing Candy's poor showing in the GI Santa Anita Derby? Jockey Mike Smith said he simply couldn't control his mount that day and said the slop and goo at Santa Anita bothered the colt. He compared the situation to when Palace Malice (Curlin) ran off in the 2013 GI Kentucky Derby only to come back and win the GI Belmont S. “He's really fast and that's his game,” Smith said. “He's never going to go out there in 24. But if I can get him to relax and then if he responds the way I know he can when I call on him we'll have a big chance in the Derby.”
