Like an answer to the question posed at Doncaster by Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Sangarius (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Shadwell's Madhmoon (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) added his name to the star casting for the 2019 Classics when dominating Saturday's G2 KPMG Champions Juvenile S., a “Win And You're In” for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, at Leopardstown. Impressive on his sole start over this course and distance Aug. 16, the bay settled in third behind Ballydoyle's pacemaking pair of Western Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and Sydney Opera House (GB) (Australia {GB}) and replicated the potent finishing kick that had instantly killed the chances of the latter on his debut. In command from before the furlong pole, the 6-5 favourite boasted a convincing 2 1/2-length margin at the line over the hard-working Broome (Ire) (Australia {GB}), with 1 1/4 lengths back to another promising course debut winner in Masaff (Ire) (Raven's Pass). “I was a bit worried about the ground here, as I thought it was a bit quick but the decision was made and it was the right one,” trainer Kevin Prendergast said. “I don't know what the opposition was like, but he couldn't do more than win well. I don't know whether he will run again this year. I'll have to talk to the boss and if he doesn't run in the Doncaster race [the Oct. 27 G1 Futurity], he won't run again until the spring. I'm happy with him going a mile at the moment and I don't know what the plans are otherwise. Hopefully he lives up to expectations.”
Madhmoon is the last known foal out of the G3 Blue Wind S. runner-up and G3 Killavullan S. third Aaraas (GB) (Haafhd {GB}), whose half-siblings include the G3 Silver Flash S. runner-up Alshahbaa (Ire) (Alhaarth {Ire}) and the Listed Salsabil S. runner-up Asheerah (GB) (Shamardal). The latter is in turn the dam of this stable's G1 Irish 2000 Guineas hero Awtaad (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and two other black-type performers including the G3 Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial third Alghabrah (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}). The second dam Adaala (Sahm) was a listed scorer who also placed third in the G3 Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial S. and hails from the family of the US Triple Crown hero and leading sire Seattle Slew, the G1 2000 Guineas hero and prolific sire Lomond (Northern Dancer) and Seattle Dancer (Nijinsky).
