Steve Landers Racing's Dazzling Gem (Misremembered), who took his record to a perfect two-for-two with an allowance win at Oaklawn Park Saturday, will now be aimed at the Mar. 19 GII Rebel S., according to trainer Brad Cox.
“The horse ran good,” Cox acknowledged a day after his charge's two-length victory. “We expected a lot out of him. ”
Dazzling Gem ran the 1 1/16 miles over a fast track in 1:45.91 (video), about a half-hour before La Macchina (Malibu Moon) won the Essex H. for older horses in 1:45.27 for 1 1/16 miles.
“Obviously, he likes this track,” Cox continued. “He raced green yesterday, but the fractions were solid, a little more solid than the Essex–came home just a shade slower, but you're comparing older horses and younger horses.”
Of a start in the Rebel, Cox added, “I guess it's the next step.”
