De Sousa & Marquand Busy Overseas

Silvestre de Sousa | Racing Post

Silvestre de Sousa, champion flat jockey in Britain in 2015, and champion apprentice reinsman Tom Marquand both booted home winners Saturday–at Sha Tin in Hong Kong and at Caulfield in Australia, respectively, the Racing Post reported. Although only licensed in Hong Kong for a three-week period, de Sousa was aboard Crimson Heart (Lion Heart) at Sha Tin Saturday. Marquand is spending a month riding for trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, arriving only this past Thursday, and scored with Tashbeeh (Aus) (Commands {Aus}) at Caulfield.

“It was fantastic, he traveled very well through the race and he picked up under pressure and made my job easy,” a jubilant Marquand told the Racing Post. “As much as it's the other side of the world, it's similar to what we do everyday at home. You've got to treat it the same way–it's a race, it's your job and it's what I came over here to do. As much as it's brilliant to ride winners out here, I can't be getting silly about it and trying to get on everything I can.”
