Ireland's champion jockey of 1969, Ryan Farnham Parnell has died at the age of 83 in Denmark. Better known as 'Buster,' Parnell was born in Britain but established himself as a top jockey in Ireland. Parnell won three Classics during his career–two editions of the Irish 2000 Guineas in 1967 (Atherstone Wood) and 1968 (Mistsigo) and the 1975 Irish 1000 Guineas aboard Miralla for trainer Hugh Nugent. He was also champion jockey in Denmark, where he met his wife Anne with whom he had two children, David and Tina. David was a champion apprentice before passing away in 1990 from a car crash.
