The Cashman family have announced the death of their stalwart national hunt sire Presenting (GB) (Mtoto-D'Azy {GB}, by Persian Bold {GB}). The 25-year-old former multiple champion sire was euthanized at Rathbarry's national hunt farm Glenview Stud due to the infirmities of old age. In a statement released the family commented, “We are naturally very upset about his passing as he was a star to us and an absolute legend. From the moment his first crop of foals arrived on the ground they appeared to attract favourable attention. Subsequently when his progeny consistently proved their ability on the racecourse his star was in the ascent and his popularity never waned in 20 years at stud.” Formerly trained by John Gosden for his breeder George Strawbridge, Presenting won the G2 Geoffrey Freer S. and was third to Lammtarra (Nijinsky {CAN}) in the 1995 G1 Epsom Derby. He earned his stripes the hard way at stud upgrading the mares he covered and he leaves a lasting legacy to the sport through the exploits of some of his top class progeny that includes G1 Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Denman (Ire) and War Of Attrition (Ire) and Aintree Grand National winner Ballabriggs (Ire), in addition to a multitude of Grade 1 winning jumpers. To date he has sired 1,306 jumps winners from 5,797 runners for prize-money earnings of £22.5 million.
