VORTICITY (c, 2, Distorted Humor–Tar Heel Mom {MGSW & GISP, $832,892}, by Flatter) was dispatched at a very chilly 7-1 off a decent debut third from a high draw at Laurel Oct. 10 and despite a smart half-mile drill over the Fair Hill all-weather track just four days prior. Away without incident, the dark bay colt soon led and dropped down onto the fence to set the pace in advance of favored Wheels Up Now (Smart Strike) through an opening quarter-mile in a solid :23.17. Still holding that one at bay as they reached the head of the stretch, Vorticity repelled the bid of Wheels Up Now at the furlong grounds and came away to a three-length victory. Condo King (Tiz Wonderful) sat a ground-saving trip from just behind the speed and outfinished the debuting Stradavari (Medaglia d'Oro), who could not sustain a wide run and finished fourth. A $100,000 Keeneland September yearling, Vorticity, bred on the same cross as GISW Any Given Saturday, breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 2/5 at this year's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale and was hammered down for $220,000. The winner's dam was a consistent performer on this circuit, with victories in the GII Honorable Miss S. and this track's GII Distaff H. while posting a runner-up effort in the 2011 GI Ballerina S. In addition to Vorticity, Tar Heel Mom produced afilly by Distorted Humor in 2014 and a colt by Tiznow this past Feb. 25. She was bred back to that WinStar stallion this season. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $40,400. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
