Three finalists for the 10th annual Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award are Bob Fortus and Gary West's Ride to Win-An Inside Look at the Jockey's Craft, Natalie Keller Reinert's Turning For Home and John Carter's Warriors on Horseback-The Inside Story of the Professional Jockey, the Ryan family's Castleton Lyons announced Friday.
Ride to Win addresses issues like weight management, fitness and keeping trainers happy with more than 50 jockeys interviewed. Turning For Home focuses on re-training the retired racehorse and is part of Reinert's “Alex and Alexander” series. Warriors on Horseback celebrates the work of jockeys past and present, including Frankie Dettori, Bob Champion and Hayley Turner.
The award offers a $10,000 prize to the winner and $1,000 to each runner-up along with Tipperary Crystal trophies. The winner of the 2015 Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award will be revealed at an invitation-only reception Apr. 13, held above the stallion barn at Castleton Lyons.
