The victim of a nasty incident when well in contention in the July 2 G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, Al Shaqab Racing's Doha Dream (Fr) (Shamardal) is fortunately back in action on Sunday as he bids to consign that fall to history in the G3 Haras de la Pomme Prix de Reux at Deauville. Successful in the G2 Prix Chaudenay at Chantilly in October, the bay has suffered ill fortune on both starts this term as before his tumble he was denied a run when under three-lengths last of five to Silverwave (Fr) (Silver Frost {Ire}) in the June 4 G2 Grand Prix de Chantilly.
This also sees the return of last year's G1 Deutsches Derby runner-up Savoir Vivre (Ire) (Adlerflug {Ger}), who went on to win the G2 Grand Prix de Deauville at this meeting. Not disgraced when eighth in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly in October, Stall Ullmann's homebred may have been feeling the effects of that effort when disappointing in fifth in Munich's G1 Grosser Preis von Bayern in November.
Godolphin's TDN Rising Star Parabellum (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) had too much to do after a slow start when sixth in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris at Saint-Cloud July 14 and Lisa Jane-Graffard commented, “Parabellum is very well and didn't have a very hard race in the Grand Prix de Paris, partly due to the way the race was run and his own inexperience. He has come on very well since then. This is a competitive race, but he gets a nice pull at the weights with some of the older horses and we are looking forward to seeing how he gets on.”
