Dressed in Hermes returned to the turf in winning style, capturing Santa Anita's Pasadena S. over a compact field of five rivals Sunday afternoon. The bay broke his maiden in the Zuma Beach S. over this same grassy one mile trip Oct. 10 and followed with a fifth-place run in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland Oct. 30. He closed out his 2-year-old season with a win in the GIII Cecil B. DeMille S. at Del Mar Nov. 29 and returned to action last month with a fourth-place finish on dirt, beaten 7 3/4 lengths by Mor Spirit (Eskendereya), in the GIII Robert B. Lewis S. Feb. 6. Bet down to 2-5 favoritism while breaking from the rail in this spot, the homebred assumed position tracking the pace in third as It's The Ice (GB) (Sakhee's Secret) set the pace on a loose lead over the good turf through fractions of :23.40 and :48.14. Sent up three wide on the far turn, Dressed in Hermes collared the pacesetter in the stretch and edged ahead in the final furlong to score by about a length. “We vanned up early [from San Luis Rey Training Center] yesterday and schooled him in the paddock yesterday afternoon,” said winning trainer Janet Armstrong. “We weren't concerned about the soft turf because he ran a good fifth in the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland last fall against some of the best horses in the world.” Dressed in Hermes's second dam is SW & MGSP Indian Fashion (General Holme).
