G1 Emirates S. winner Awesome Rock (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) is set for a first overseas assignment in next March's G1 Dubai Turf, co-trainer Troy Corstens told Racing.com. The 5-year-old entire, who gained redemption in the Nov. 5 Emirates after being disqualified from the win in the G1 Australian Cup at the same track in April, will take in the G1 C.F. Orr S. first-up before another shot at the Australian Cup two weeks out from his Meydan test.
Awesome Rock recently returned to the yard of Troy and Leon Corstens after a three-week spell.
“He's come back terrific, he hasn't put on a stack of weight– he's got a little bit of cover over his ribs,” Corstens told Racing.com. “He looked quite tight when he went out, and he's done exceptionally. He's a stallion and we were very mindful of him doing too well in the paddock, so we were very careful–we went out and monitored him twice when he was out in the three-week period.”
Corstens indicated Awesome Rock would be well primed for the C.F. Orr.
“The C.F. Orr S. is an extremely important race for him–it would be really good to get the Group 1 weight-for-age over 1400 metres against his name,” Corstens added. “I think that could add a bit of value to his stud career going forward, and I think it's a really good race for him to kick off in again.”
