Dubday (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) made a promising return to his country of birth when running a fine second to the Sir Michael Stoute trained Telescope (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the Listed Al Rayan S. At Newbury on Saturday. Originally bought out of the Stoute yard as an unraced juvenile to race in Germany where he was successful as a 3-year-old, the 5-year-old colt was then purchased to race in Qatar where he is now trained by Jassim Al Ghazali and carries the silks of Al Shaqab Racing. His excellent run on Saturday, when he attempted to give three pounds to confirmed G1 performer Telescope, has prompted connections to strongly consider an entry in Royal Ascot. Jassim Al Ghazali, who has trained Dubday to win six times at Doha said, “It was a difficult race and very nice to come second. I thought he might be third or fourth so to my mind he's done a very good job.”
Al Ghazali continued,”We will have to see where he goes next. Maybe he will go to Royal Ascot, but I'm not sure for which race. It depends what the owners want to do. I do not know much about racing in the UK, but after his race on Saturday hopefully he can do well in other races. The distance for him is anything from 2000 to 2400 metres. He is quite versatile.”
