Jerry Hollendorfer and Green Smith's Wild Dude (Wildcat Heir)looks to score his second straight victory in Santa Anita's seven-panel GII San Carlos S. Saturday. The bay sprung an 11-1 upset of Del Mar's GI Bring Crosby S. last July and missed by just a half-length next out in the GII Pat O'Brien S. there a month later. Rebounding to win the GI Santa Anita Sprint Championship going a furlong shorter here Oct. 3, he was sixth behind another sensational performance from champion Runhappy (Super Saver) in the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint at Keeneland Oct. 31.
Richard Pell's Calculator (In Summation) returns to graded company here off a winning comeback race at this track and trip Feb. 13 after 13 months on the bench. Second to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in both the GI Del Mar Futurity and GI FrontRunner S. in 2014, the gray was sidelined with an injury after breaking his maiden in last term's GIII Sham S. last January. Relegated to last after completely missing the break in his local return, the Peter Miller pupil rushed up the outside to take control at the half and held off a determined rival to score.
C R K Stable's Kobe's Back (Flatter), who is known for missing the break and spotting the field early, looks to make it two in a row here after capturing the GII Palos Verdes S. last time Feb. 7. Winner of the last term's GIII Commonwealth S., the Peter Eurton trainee missed by just a neck in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship and was seventh in the Breeders' Cup prior to his last out victory.
