Friday evening's Dundalk card-which was to feature the Listed Patton S., a race with GI Kentucky Derby implications and containing some key 3-year-olds–was called off after just two races after a member of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board security team collapsed in the winner's enclosure after the second race.
The decision was subsequently taken to call off the remaining six contests, with the official IHRB report stating, “due to a serious medical incident, the stewards abandoned racing after race two.”
Aidan O'Brien won the race immediately preceding the incident with new 'TDN Rising Star' U S S Michigan (War Front), and in addition to Western Australia (GB) (Australia {GB}) in the Patton was supposed to start the Group 1-placed I Can Fly (GB) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) in a conditions race on the card. It has not yet been revealed when the abandoned races will be run.
