Dunlop Thrilled With 'Robin'

Despite not posting a victory this season, trainer Harry Dunlop has expressed his delight with his stable-star Robin Of Navan (Fr) (American Post {GB}) following the colt's good run in Italy on Sunday when he finished second to Potemkin (Ger) (New Approach {Ire}) in the G1 Prix Roma at Capannelle. The run ends a stop-start season for the 3-year-old which began well when he finished second in the G2 Prix Greffulhe at Saint Cloud in May only to be derailed when getting injured in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club in June.

“We were absolutely thrilled,” said Dunlop. “He's given what looks a very good horse in Potemkin a pretty good run for his money and beaten a Group One winner in Elliptique in third. He was very seriously hurt in the [G1] Prix du Jockey Club. It's taken a few runs, but it's incredible we've managed to get him back to that level again. It's nice to end what has been a slightly frustrating year on a high and he's an exciting horse to look forward to for next season.”

Dunlop has no plan of action for next season just yet, but the colt's lineage suggests he will be seen in France as much as possible.

“I haven't really thought about where we'll start off with him. He'll obviously be racing in France plenty as he's eligible for the premiums, which are very lucrative for us.”
