Former New York Racing Association Director of Communications and Public Affairs John Durso, Jr. has been named Vice President of Community and Communications for NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47 New York, NBC Universal announced in a release Monday. Durso will begin his new role immediately and will oversee communications for COZI TV, the national multicast network launched by the lifestyle production arm of NBC.
“John is hard-working, smart and creative, with a reputation for honesty and integrity, as well as proven experience working with the media and non-profit organizations across the Tri-State area,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager, NBC 4 New York. “We're so pleased to welcome him to NBC 4 New York and can't wait for him to get started.”
Durso spent two years in his most recent role at NYRA and prior to that served as Senior Director and Chief Spokesperson at NJ Transit for three years.
“NBC 4 and Telemundo 47 represent the finest in broadcast journalism, with an impeccable reputation for civic responsibility and community service,” Durso said. “Growing up, NBC 4 was the news station ever present on my family's living room television set, with giants such as Tom Brokaw, Tim Russert and Chuck Scarborough influencing my long-sustained interest in current events. Telemundo 47's 50-year dedication to its viewers and to the communities it serves is remarkable. The opportunity to join the tireless and trusted professionals at NBC's flagship station, NBC 4, Telemundo 47, COZI TV and LX.TV is an incredible honor, and I look forward to supporting their commitment to their audiences in the months and years to come.”
