Perfect Drift (Dynaformer–Nice Gal, by Naskra), a GISW who earned $4,714,212 to lead the progeny of his sire, has been retired, the Daily Racing Form reported. The nine-year-old gelding had finished third in the Windy Sands H. at Del Mar Sept. 1 in his most recent start. ìWe were thinking of taking one more shot,î his trainer Richard Mandella told DRF. ìWe thought it over and that's generally the time you should stop.î Perfect Drift, third in the 2002 GI Kentucky Derby, won seven graded stakes in his eight-year career, which was highlighted by an upset of eventual Horse of the Year Mineshaft (A.P. Indy) in the 2003 Stephen Foster H. He'll live out his retirement in Kansas at the farm of his owner, Dr. William Reed, according to Mandella.
