Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Sepoy (Aus) (c, 3, Elusive Quality–Watchful {Aus}, by Danehill), last year's champion juvenile off his win in the G1 Golden Slipper S. in April, gave his backers some anxious moments when he dwelt at the start of Friday's G1 Manikato S., but pushed along to dispute the pace and asserted his superiority in the final furlong for a 2 1/4-length defeat of his elders in the 1200-meter event. It was the eight career win from nine trips to the post for Sepoy, who, despite the win, is unlikely to face undefeated world champion Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}) in the G1 Patinack Farm Classic Nov. 5. Lifetime Record: 9-8-1-0. O-Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. B-Darley. T-Peter Snowden.
