Khalid Abdullah's dual Classic-winning filly Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) has been given the go-ahead by trainer John Gosden to face elder males in Saturday's G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot.
“John is happy with her and she's going to head to Ascot,” confirmed the owner's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe.
Enable is ante-post favourite for the £1.15-million contest off commanding scores in the G1 Investec Oaks and G1 Darley Irish Oaks, which she won by five and 5 1/2 lengths, respectively.
Frankie Dettori, who will have to get down to close to his minimum weight to ride Enable on Saturday, revealed on Wednesday that the filly had thrown him off the morning before.
“I rode Enable yesterday morning and believe it or not she dumped me on the floor,” he said. “I was like, 'thanks very much!' Luckily, I fell standing up but she still dumped me. She is just full of herself right now and raring to go.”
In other King George news, Gerald Mosse has picked up the ride on Sixties Song (Arg) (Sixties Icon {GB}), who will be the first-ever Argentinian-trained runner at Ascot.
“It looks a very competitive race but he is the top horse in Argentina,” Mosse said. “I'm excited to ride in the King George, it's a great race to be a part of.”
Mosse's agent Shippy Ellis said, “We were looking at riding at Newmaket but Gerald looked at the videos [of Sixties Song] and was keen to ride him. He does have some form on soft ground but he'd prefer it quicker, I think. It's a proper King George, make no mistake, and the connections deserve credit for coming and having a go. He's a big price but I think he'll outrun it.”
