Small in stature, but big in heart, English Channel (Smart Strike) topped off a brilliant career with a seven-length victory in the GI Breedersí Cup Turf, locking up year-end honors at Monmouth Park in front of his owner, Rumson, New Jerseyís own Jim Scatuorchio. The chestnut, a close third to Miesqueís Approval in last yearís balloting, got the nod over GI Breedersí Cup Mile victor Kip Deville (Kipling) and After Market (Storm Cat).
