After a disappointing dirt debut, Enterprising graduated at second asking over the Betfair Hollywood Park lawn Nov. 16 and captured the Eddie Logan S. over this course Dec. 28. A half-length second in the California Derby at Golden Gate Jan. 18, the bay was third last time on the synthetic there in the 1 1/8-mile GIII El Camino Derby Feb. 15. Chosen as the favorite in this fully loaded field, he saved all the ground while rated back off a solid pace under the patient hands of Gary Stevens. Enterprising was weaved between rivals for a backstretch bid, but was forced to check when squeezed in tight. Quickly regaining his momentum, the bay was widest of three battling down the lane.
