Officials at the Hong Kong Jockey Club have simplified the entry process for the Longines Hong Kong International Races and for each of the jurisdictions 31 group races, which are now open to international entrants. Free entries for the Longines HKIR will be accepted through Oct. 24, 2016, with supplemental entries to close Nov. 21, 2016. Invitees will be announced soon for the four events, to be contested Sunday, Dec. 11 at Sha Tin Racecourse. This year's HKIR will offer combined purse money of HK$83 million (US$10.7 million). The flagship event of the meeting, the G1 Longines Hong Kong Cup (2000m), is the richest of the four races at HK$25 million (US$3.2 million). The G1 Longines Hong Kong Mile is worth HK$23 million (US$2.96 million), the G1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) carries purse money of HK$18.5 million (US$2.36 million) and the G1 Longines Hong Kong Vase (2400m) is worth HK$16.5 million (US$2.13 million).
The first two pattern races of the season–the G3 National Day Cup H. (1000m) and G3 Celebration Cup H. (1400m)–are set for this Saturday at Sha Tin.
