The outbreak of EHV-1 virus in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, reported in Wednesday's TDN, has been stabilized. France Galop issued a statement on Friday outlining that, of the 25 samples taken in the stable affected by the virus, two were positive; the horse being treated and a healthy carrier horse. The latter, although in good shape, was immediately isolated. The three other horses who had spiked fevers earlier in the week have subsequently tested negative for EHV-1. Two of these horses were permitted to return to their stables while the third remains at the clinic to be treated for a cough unrelated to the herpes virus. The bio-security precautions taken at the Cagnes-sur-Mer training center and racecourse were reviewed on Thursday by France Galop veterinary officials and the management of the racing company and it has been decided to keep these procedures in place as a precaution.
