Euro Trip On The Cards For Jameka

Jameka's trainer Ciaron Maher

Last year's G1 Caulfield Cup winner Jameka (Aus) (Myboycharlie {Ire}), who makes her autumn debut in Saturday's G1 CF Orr S. at Caulfield, could have an extended Northern Hemisphere summer campaign in Europe, trainer Ciaron Maher told Racing.com. Maher said the mare's main target would be the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot in July, with Royal Ascot and the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe also possible.

“We've looked into racing at Royal Ascot, trying to have her right for the King George,” Maher told Racing.com. “There's a vast range of races over there [in Europe] in her best-distance range. The Arc's at Chantilly, but whether she's up to that or not, we'll have to see how her form is, and whether she even goes or not. She may even stay here for the spring, and maybe the [G1] Vase in Hong Kong, so there's plenty of options for her.”

But first up for Jameka is an Australian autumn campaign that is expected to include the Orr, the G2 Peter Young S. and G1 Australian Cup in Melbourne before a trip to Sydney for the G1 The BMW or G1 Queen Elizabeth S., and Maher said the 4-year-old would have to be at her best to travel overseas.

“[Travel] is something we've always wanted to do,” he noted. “The connections are on board. Everything would have to be right to take her. You want to go over there to be competitive; you don't just want to go over there just to compete.”
