Godolphin's Rebel's Romance (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) and the Coolmore partners' Tower Of London (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) have both been entered in the G1 Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup at Sha Tin in Hong Kong on Sunday, May 26, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) revealed on Tuesday.
The pair are the only overseas entrants in the 2400-metre contest, which is the final Group 1 of the Hong Kong season with a purse of HK$13 million (£1.3 million). Both horses are also coming off of victories on Dubai World Cup night at the end of March. Rebel's Romance, a winner of the 2022 GI Breeders' Cup Turf, is riding a three-race winning streak including February's G3 H H The Amir Trophy in Qatar, and the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan for trainer Charlie Appleby. In the case of Aidan O'Brien trainee Tower Of London, he claimed the G3 Red Sea Turf H. in Saudi Arabia, and he was a handy winner of the 3200-metre G2 Dubai Gold Cup at the end of March.
If either horse prevails, they would be the first internationally trained winner of the Hong Kong showpiece.
