Staying on when fourth in a six-furlong Nottingham maiden on debut June 11, Rouleau stayed at that trip to win a Polytrack maiden at Wolverhampton 11 days later and an Ascot nursery as the highweight July 10 before dropping back to five for his next two starts. Third in the G3 Molecomb S. at Goodwood July 29 and second in the Listed Roses S. at York Aug. 22, the bay raced freely in second early before being sent to the lead passing the quarter pole. Driven out as Dream Destination and Adventurous challenged on either side, he was game to the line to earn a step up in class. “I was pleased with that and he was a lot happier back up to six furlongs, as he was back in his comfort zone,” trainer Charlie Appleby said. “He has been kept busy, so we will see how he comes out of it. He is in the G2 Mill Reef S. [at Newbury Sept. 19] and we will potentially look at that if it is a sound surface.”
