Mr Stunning (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) had turned in some very promising trials ahead of his career debut going 1000 metres of this city course Feb. 3 and he turned in one of the most memorable performances in recent memory when coming from a seemingly impossible position in the final 300 metres to get home first (VIDEO). The gelding, who topped the 2013 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale and fetched a quarter-million dollars at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale, was crushed into $14 (2-5) favoritism as the 133-pound topweight in a Class 4 over a metric six panels Wednesday and made light work of overmatched foes. Fast away from his low draw, Mr Stunning led for the opening exchanges before easing back into the perfect spot from third over a track that was playing kind to speed all night long. Poised off heels at the entrance to the straight, Mr Stunning was guided down to the inside, quickened up noticeably to hit the front better than a furlong from home and was not fully extended to score by 2 3/4 convincing lengths (VIDEO). With Fervour, a daughter of US MGISW and 1985 Kentucky Oaks victrix Fran's Valentine and therefore a half-sister to the popular gray galloper and MGISW With Anticipation (Relaunch), was sold for 65,000gns at Tattersalls December in 2003 and was exported to Australia. She was subsequently let go for A$6,000 at the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale in 2013 barren to Purrealist (Aus) and passed away 10 days after foaling a filly by Mossman (Aus) in October 2014. @EquinealTDN
