On the pick of his form, Godolphin's Prize Money (GB) (Authorized {Ire}) holds strong claims in a wide-open renewal of Munich's G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis on Sunday. Very few horses are capable of beating Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), even allowing for that rival being below his best, but that was what the 4-year-old achieved in Meydan's G2 Dubai City of Gold over 12 furlongs on Mar. 4. Subsequently fourth in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic three weeks later and ninth in the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom on June 2, he ran 11th in the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot 22 days later but will be more at home in this company.
Also representing the operation is the 3-year-old Best Solution (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who failed to live up to the promise of his clear-cut success in the May 13 Listed Lingfield Derby Trial when eighth in the June 3 G1 Epsom Derby and 10th in the G2 King Edward VII S. at Royal Ascot on June 23. Their trainer Saeed bin Suroor commented, “Prize Money has been working well and I have been happy with him since Royal Ascot. The drop back to a mile and a quarter should be fine and he heads to Germany in good order. A mile and a quarter will be no problem for Best Solution as he has shown speed in his races and he has been in good form at home. Both horses have a good chance of running a big race.”
Germany's best may be last year's third and fourth Potemkin (Ger) (New Approach {Ire}) and Iquitos (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}), with the former subsequently taking the G1 Premio Roma over this trip at the Capannelle on Nov. 6 and the latter the G1 Grosser Preis Von Baden in September, but the 3-year-old Enjoy Vijay (Ger) (Nathaniel {Ire}) also commands respect. Gestut Ittlingen's colour-bearer was runner-up to Windstoss (Ger) (Shirocco {Ger}) in the G1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg on July 2 and gets the all-important weight-for-age concession.
