Fair Grounds has released the stakes schedule for its upcoming 2016-2017 season, which starts Nov. 19, with 60 stakes worth more than $6.79 million.
As always, the meet will be highlighted by GII Louisiana Derby day Apr. 1, which features eight stakes worth $2.36 million. The Triple Crown prep race will be joined by the GII Fair Grounds Oaks, GII New Orleans H. and GII Mervin Muniz Memorial S., as well as four listed stakes.
Other Derby preps at the Fair Grounds are the GIII Lecomte S. Jan. 21 and the GII Risen Star S. Feb. 25. The New Orleans oval will also offer its usual series of GI Kentucky Oaks preps, with the Silverbullerday S. to be held on the Lecomte undercard and the GII Rachel Alexandra S. on the same card as the Risen Star.
