James Fanshawe is biding his time before committing his stable star The Tin Man (GB) (Equiano {Fr}) to the G1 Darley July Cup, the feature event of the three day July Festival at Newmarket next week. The six furlong contest is the obvious next port of call for the 5-year-old who confirmed himself one of Britain's top sprinters when beating Tasleet (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) and Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}) in the G1 Diamond Jubilee S. on the final day of Royal Ascot. “The Tin Man seems to have taken the race well. He has just been steady cantering for the past week,” Fanshawe said on Monday. “Of course I would love to run him in the July Cup but we will just see how things go over the next week with him.” Despite the track's proximity to his stable The Tin Man has never run at Newmarket with his two best performances to date coming at Ascot.
In other July Cup news Harry Bentley will resume his partnership with last year's winner Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}) having lost the ride to Ryan Moore at Royal Ascot. Moore is expected to partner Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) should the Ballydoyle 3-year-old take on his elders July 15.
