Kaleem Shah's Fantastic Style (Harlan's Holiday), making her first start since winning the GII Great Lady M S. at Los Alamitos last July, returned with a sparkling four-length victory in the GIII Las Flores S. at Santa Anita Sunday. The 1-2 favorite broke well, but allowed Amaranth (Mr. Greeley) to scamper off to a clear early lead. She took closer order after a quarter in :22.09, stuck her head in front after a half in :44.66 and stormed clear before finishing geared down.
“She just cruised,” Mike Marlow, assistant to trainer Bob Baffert, said of the winner. “[Rafael Bejaranao] was loaded all the way. She was off for a while, but Bob had her ready. She was really impressive. It was a good comeback race.”
Fantastic Style, a $525,000 OBS April graduate, broke her maiden second-time out at Santa Anita last January. She added a Feb. 26 allowance in Arcadia before heading east for a third-place effort in the Apr. 12 GII Beaumont S. at Keeneland. The bay filly defeated Saturday's GI Santa Margarita S. winner Tara's Tango (Unbridled's Song) by 3 1/4 lengths in the May 16 Angels Flight S. Off since striding clear to an impressive victory in the Great Lady M. last summer, Fantastic Style had been training strongly for the return, most recently with a bullet five furlongs at Santa Anita Mar. 14 in :59 2/5.
Olympic skier Bode Miller signed the ticket at $125,000 to purchase Fantastic Style's half-sister by Hard Spun at last year's OBS March sale.
