SOMEHOW (IRE) (f, 3, Fastnet Rock {Aus}–Alexandrova {Ire} {Hwt. 3yo Filly-Ire at 9 1/2-10 1/2f & 11-13f, MG1SW-Eng, G1SW-Ire, G1SP-Fr, $1,210,034, by Sadler's Wells), a daughter of the 2006 G1 Epsom, G1 Irish and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Alexandrova who shaped with promise despite a troubled trip when third over seven furlongs here on her only prior start in October, sat handy just behind the leaders in fifth after the initial stages of this seasonal bow. Improving into second at halfway, the 15-8 second favourite loomed large off the home turn and quickened smartly inside the final quarter mile to comfortably best 5-4 chalk Shamreen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) by 1 3/4 lengths. “She had a lovely run first time, has been working nicely and has a beautiful pedigree,” Aidan O'Brien told irish-racing.com. “We will step her up now into an Oaks Trial; there are plenty of options at Chester, York, Lingfield and the Blue Wind at Naas. She may get a mile and a half.” The winner is a half-sister to Alex My Boy (Ire) (Dalakhani {Ire}), Hwt. Older Horse-Ger at 14f+, MGSW-Fr & SP-Eng, $225,845. Her dam is a full-sister to Masterofthehorse (Ire), who ran third in the Epsom Derby won by Sea the Stars (Ire), and also a half-sister to the G1 Cheveley Park S. winner Magical Romance (Ire) (Barathea {Ire}) and the smart group performer Washington Irving (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). The family is that of Luca Cumani's Fittocks Stud's Puce (GB) (Darshaan {GB}) and Pongee (GB) (Barathea {Ire}), which continues to produce classy runners including the promising Haggle (GB) (Pivotal {GB}). Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $11,776. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
