Favourites Upset In Slipper Preps

Capitalist suffered his first defeat in the Todman | Racing and Sports

Randwick's two key G1 Golden Slipper prep races Saturday both produced longshot winners, and therefore some shifts in the betting for the world's richest 2-year-old race. Kiss and Make Up (Aus) (More Than Ready) upset the colts' feature, the G2 Todman S., when winning by 2 1/4 lengths for trainer Gai Waterhouse. 'TDN Rising Stars' Capitalist (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) and Weatherly (Aus) (Beneteau {Aus}) were back in second and third, respectively, the former suffering his first career defeat. Capitalist, the former Slipper favourite, has risen to 10-1, while Kiss and Make Up has shortened to 8-1. Weatherly is 33-1 for the Mar. 19 feature.

The fillies' prep, the G2 Reisling S., a race earlier saw French Fern (Aus) (Lope De Vega {Aus}) post a 30-1 victory. The favoured Honesty Prevails (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) was four lengths back in fourth. Honesty Prevails has risen to 33-1 for the Slipper, while French Fern is 50-1.
