Before the Fasig-Tipton November sale, Fox Hill Farmsメ Rick Porter called his stable star Round Pond (Awesome Again) the complete package, and Sheikh Mohammed obviously agrees. The Sheikh's representative John Ferguson went to $5.75 million to purchase the five-year-old yesterday. It was the highest price ever for a broodmare prospect at Fasig-Tipton. Miss Oceana holds the Fasig record for a broodmare, going for $7 million as part of the Newstead dispersal in 1985. Round Pond retired earlier this year after winning nearly $2 million and the 2006 GI Breedersメ Cup Distaff. She also has pedigree–her dam Gift of Dance is a half-sister to a trio of Grade I/Group 1 winners, including European highweights Black Minnaloushe and Pennekamp, and her sire was represented by his second consecutive BC Distaff winner when Ginger Punch scored last Saturday.
