In a renewal robbed of a significant player when the likely favourite Psychedelic Funk (GB) (Choisir {Aus}) was withdrawn due to a raised temperature, Peace Envoy gave his sire a first black-type success to secure a place on Ballydoyle's Royal Ascot juvenile squad. Off the mark on debut over five furlongs at Dundalk Apr. 8, the bay was second when failing by a half length to give five pounds to Psychedelic Funk's stablemate King Electric (Ire) (Elzaam {Aus}) who he had beaten on the Polytrack in a conditions race over that trip at The Curragh last time May 2. Sent straight to the lead by Ryan Moore, he ran green and jinked against the rail passing the furlong pole under pressure from the Joseph O'Brien-trained Lundy but kept his composure to prevail in a sustained duel. “They ran great races and went to the line well,” O'Brien senior commented. “Ryan's horse is still green and he needed all three runs, as he's taken time to learn. Five or six wouldn't be a problem to him and we'll see where the others go [at Royal Ascot].” Peace Envoy was the first winner for his first-season sire (by Oasis Dream {GB}), who stands at Coolmore Stud at a fee of €8,000, and is now the first black-type winner also.
