First Samurai Filly Brings $525K At KEESEP Opener

Hip 8, a 3/4-sister to GISW Eskendereya (Giant's Causeway), brought a final bid of $525,000 during the early going at the opening session of Keeneland September Sunday. Consigned by Peter O'Callaghan's Woods Edge Farm for breeder Sanford Robertson, the February foal is from the second crop by MGISW First Samurai (Giant's Causeway). Her brother, a $250,000 KEESEP yearling in 2008, romped in the GI Wood Memorial S. and was the early favorite for the GI Kentucky Derby, but was withdrawn after being injured a week before the race and was subsequently retired. He earned $725,700. Chiefswood, based in Ontario, is the operation of owner Robert Krembil, who campaigned 2004 Queen's Plater winner Niigon.
